Did I mention....?

Orientation is on May 29th. I will be able to register for classes then. Classes start on May 31st. Can you image the vast sum of classes I will be able to choose from, not to mention times, only TWO days before summer classes start. The choices right now are slim to none, and I still have a whole month.

I already gave notice at my job.

I still don't know where I will be living come school starting and beyond.

I was going to ride the bus everywhere, not just the UT clean, college kid bus, but the weirdo, stinky bus too. Gas is expensive and with no job I can't drive a car all over tarnation, plus there is negative parking at UT. I don't know how that is possible, but I swear it has gone past good, old No Parking and gone into the negatives. This will prove hard if we are in Georgetown. Since there is no bus into Austin. I will have to drive to north Austin and park just to ride the Capital Metro. That is half way to school.

So, in light of the bus riding I have decided to invest in a Mp3 player. I want something cheap. I don't necessarily want and ipod. But I do want something good quality. With 2-4gb. Any suggestions?

still more fabric

This is Amy Butler fabric. I love her designs for fabric and patterns. They are all very cool. Well, Michael's is carrying PAPER by Amy Butler. I am so excited I could actually squeal. Don't judge me. There was a series of five minutes when I actually hopped a little. Okay, I hopped a lot. It comes in a 12x12 pad for 9.99. The paper is really super thick and textured. I am so excited.

I guess I forgot to mention that at work we are resetting all of our scrapbooking aisles. That means we are moving and getting new stuff for 7 aisles. It is so hectic. Not to mention that we have to reset other aisles too that don't have anything to do with scrapbooking. Also we are getting in all sorts of new stuff. It is fun to put away the new stuff. We will also receive an exclusive Martha Stewart crafting line in the next month.

Just one complaint or two

First off, in our living room we have a back door. It isn't a sliding door, just a plain door. This door does, however have glass. Almost the whole thing is glass. We also have a screen door that has a doggy door in it. We have the real door open almost all the time. Lucky for us our neighbors kitchen window looks out into our backdoor. We got these new neighbors a couple of months ago. At night, when you walk by the back door, which remember is in the living room, there is almost always somebody there looking into the house. Just staring! It is beyond weird! We can't see into their house. We can just barely see over the fence. But when somebody is standing at the window you can see their head over the fence. So weird. Do they not have another window to look out of? Are we that interesting?

Then, of course, I have a complaint about work. I was putting out freight, paper specifically. I don't know if you know this about me, but I hate people. When I am doing something specific I don't like to be bothered. This is partly do to my memory thing. Sometimes it is hard to remember what I was doing. So this man walks up to me. Standard middle aged man. I know bad news when I see it and it generally comes in the form of someone middle aged. He asks me where the file folders are. I think and tell him that I don't think we have any. Then in a way to loud, outraged voices he cries out, "NO FILE FOLDERS? AT AN OFFICE SUPPLY STORE?" And gives me this look like I am the stupidest person on the face of the Earth. Now, you may not know this about me, but I don't work at an office supply store. I work at a craft store. At this point I couldn't even look him in the eye. "Um, well this isn't an office supply store. This is an arts and craft store. The office supply is next door." I am trying to not just completely fly off the handle at him. Then he says, " I got the wrong door." And walks away. Just walks away. No apology. As he was walking away I wanted to tell him, "Hey, how about an apology, dick? Because even if this was the office supply store and for some reason we didn't have file folders there is absolutely no reason why you would need to talk to the employee like than because it wasn't like they made the order or anything. You cock suck!" But instead I thought what a douche bag. He walked across the store past beads, and about thirteen miles of fake flowers to get to the paper. When did office supply stores start selling fake flowers and bunny trinkets for Easter?

Okay, last complaint I promise. This woman asks me for a couple of things. All of which were art supply related. Do you have to use a special pen to do calligraphy when you are left handed? Because she was telling me that you did... I don't believe her. But unless it is out with the other calligraphy stuff we don't. So then she asks about this paper or that paper and blah, blah, blah. We didn't have that stuff either. So then she tells me, with no malice or ill content, "I guess we can't do business then." What? Are you under the disillusion that you and I are doing business? I am not getting your money. The business the store does effects me little. I can have a new job in heart beat. Leave. Your not hurting my feelings. Why would you say that? I just don't get it.

Glitter is sparkly, but it hurts when it gets in your eye

My boss (the guy who hired me): Hey would you go and put that "power panel" ( a display on the side of an endcap) back on. I had to move it for something else and I haven't got a chance to put it back up. The power panels are upstairs.
Me: Okay
Me putting the power panel up. Question to the very nice, very funny, gay, male Assistant Store Manager.
Me to Assistant Manager : Hey, how high does this go up?
Assistant Manager: Just to where it is almost touching the ground.

We both look down to discover it is about two feet off the ground.

Assistant Manager: Oh, that is too short.
Me: Do I need a long one?
Assistant Manager: Yeah, if there isn't a long one I don't know what we are going to do.
Me: I think there is a long one up there.
Assistant Manager: Are you sure? Because I know at one point I was looking for long and all I could find was short.
Me: Story of my life
and before he even caught it
Me: Just kidding
Laughter, laughter, laughter, more laughter as I walked away to go get the long one I could hear him laughing as he went to go tell a few people. He thought that was so good.

I can't pass up an opportunity to make a gay man laugh about penis jokes. It is just too good.

That is absolutely not true, by the way. Just a joke.

I broke down and went to work the second time they called me to come in on Sunday. I know. I know. I worked from 7pm to 2 am putting out Christmas freight. The good thing was no old people to harass me and no christmas music. I wasn't scheduled on Monday but you know I worked. Today I worked a full 8 hours. I am tired. But today I did get offered a promotion. I will be the Price Integrity Coordinator. Doesn't that sound really fancy? Well let me explain what that means. I put the correct price sticker on the correct product. There has never been a fancier name for someone who puts stickers on things. I will be getting paid more all though they haven't told me how much more. This is the fastest I have ever got a promotion. At this rate I will own that bitch in another 2 months.

My week

I was scheduled to work 20 hours at work. I am part time. I ended up working almost 30. Why? I have no idea what are they doing up there? Thursday, my normal day off I went to work at the Round Rock store because they were behind in their frame shop. Okay, fine no big deal. I will do it. It was only 9-1. Meanwhile, at 8 in the morning on the way to the Round Rock store it is sleating and the roads were less than friendly. Fine. Friday I was supposed to be in at 5-9. I get a call at 11 am.
"Hey, Lauren, this is Derek. What are you doing?"
"Sleeping."
"Oh, did I wake you up?"
"No, it is fine."
"Okay, well today I looked at the schedule and realized we don't have a framer after 1. Can you come in from 1-9?"
Thinking that I would be framing I agreed. That was a poor decicision. Because I never frame and I should have known. I get there and they had called another kid into do the framing stuff. I was going to put out freight. Guess what happened then. The manager calls me over the intercom to dial whatever extention and low and behold they don't have any cashiers either. Excellent. So from 1:30-5:30 I was "back up cashier" at 5:30 the kid left and they didn't have anybody in the frame shop so they finally let me go back there and stopped calling me.

Last night I write down my schedule and set it on the table and tell Kyle that I am only working 2 days next week. He says, "Really?" I am only working tuesday and wednesday but I work 8 hours each day. "Yeah, but you know they are going to call you in every day." Yeah, I know.

Saturday at 2 pm: "Hey Lauren I wanted to know if you could work tomorrow from 9-4?"

I haven't called back my answer is HELL NO!!!

Am I the only one that works here?

My day at work.

Me: Hi, what would you like me to do today?
Whom ever: Well, go ahead and get with so and so they are doing such and such (cleaning, stocking, unloading a truck, etc.)
Me: Okay

...10 minutes later

Intercom: Lauren to register five for back-up

...1 hour later... I start back working on whatever it was I was supposed to be doing.

...5 minutes later

Intercom: Lauren to register five for back-up

while on register five for back-up

Intercom: Lauren to framing call 27

Lauren doesn't respond and somebody else tells him Lauren is on the register. Apparently the other people in the store can do fifteen things at once. Or maybe they do nothing and Lauren does everything. Grrrrrr. It is incredibly busy cause the holidays. When I get home it feels like I have been beat with a stick. In fact that might even feel better.

"If that is the shit they are selling you on Sunday you need to find a new cult."

I work with a lot of kids. By kids, I mean not over 20. I just happen to be sitting down in the break room with this 20 year old girl. We start talking about ACC ,Austin Community College, and how she will be there forever blah, blah, blah. She says that she is majoring in psychology, not because she wants to, just because she just chose something and "everyone else was doing that." So I tell her that I wouldn't mind majoring in Sociology because I really find it interesting. She then proceeds to tell me how much she hates her sociology class because it goes against everything she believes in....What? "Well I believe in the bible and it just goes against everything I believe in." Dumb struck, I ask her, "Okay, well give me a for instance. What exactly goes against the bible." I shit you not she told me that because Sociology is science based, yeah because it is a science where there are facts and you know, oh, what do you call it? Oh yeah proof, ha, how could I forget? And what she believes is all faith based. So she just chooses to not even listen. "I mean it is all based on evolution and it is against everything I believe in so I just don't even want to listen."

Fuck me sideways. I almost choked there were so many words in my throat I was holding back. At that point I wanted to stand up and say well it was nice meeting you. Instead I just thought what a fucking idiot. That really is the problem with christianity. It stifles knowledge. I watched this show about ancient Rome or Greece, I can't remember. The point is that there was this doctor who was so advanced that he was doing things that we do now. 2000 years ago we had the same knowledge and it was illegal for him to cut open humans he was not working with a level playing field and he knew the things we know, NOW. He made his own instruments, guess what they recently found them on some archeological dig, they look the exact same as the ones we make today. He had a knowledge of infections and antibiotics, it was amazing. I am sure you are thinking, well why have we only been using this knowledge for the past hundred years? I will tell you why... christianity. That is why. Christians came along and decided that science works against them, so they stifle it. Just like with stem cell research!

I mean....I can't even come up with the right words to describe how disturbed I am by this. In my sociology class all we talked about was theories of social interaction. Nothing even remotely close to evolution. Nothing even remotely controversial.

Just for a second, I want to get off subject and say it strikes me as funny when people don't believe in evolution. We interact with evolution everyday people! What the fuck? Do you live in a cave? Here is a very simple example of evolution. When you have an infection, you get sick, you go to the doctor. They give you some medicine and tell you to take the whole bottle. Why? Because if you don't the bacteria will EVOLVE and become resistant to the medicine. Wasn't that a simple thought? Every fucking day! Every day people are taking medicine and bacteria are evolving to resist it.

The problem is this girl probably thinks that evolution strictly means that we came from monkeys. Something also tells me that she has never read the bible. I mean I guess it isn't her fault. Schools suck, they don't teach you a damn thing and your lucky if you can read when you graduate.

This kind of shit haunts me.
